How to use a heat press for DTF transfers?
Step 1: Prepare your workspace
Make sure your DTF Heat Press is clean and in good working condition. Cover the work surface with a protective sheet, such as parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Step 2: Preheat the heat press
Turn on the heat press and set the time and temperature. The typical temperature range for DTF is usually somewhere between 280 – 325 degrees Fahrenheit. The typical pressure range is usually between 30 – 60 PSI (medium to firm).
Step 3: Prepare the garment
Place the substrate or garment on the lower platen or dress it around the platen to your taste. Make sure it is flat and wrinkle-free.
Step 4: Position the DTF transfer
The transfer should be placed face down on the garment, with the film on top and the adhesive touching your garment or substrate. Make sure the transfer is centered and aligned properly. If the garment is made of a delicate fabric, such as silk or rayon, you may want to place a pressing sheet on top of the transfer that covers your entire garment.
Step 5: Apply the heat press
Perform your press, applying pressure to the design and garment. Typically, this is somewhere around 10 – 20 seconds.
Step 6: Allow the transfer to cool
After pressing, remove the heat press and allow the transfer to cool for at least 20 – 30 seconds.
Step 7: Peel the carrier sheet
Once the transfer is cool, carefully peel the carrier sheet away from the garment. Peel diagonally with a firm touch, while holding the garment in place. The transfer should now be adhered to the garment.
Step 8: (Optional) Second Press: Once the design is adhered to the garment, place your protective sheet back over the design for a second press. 10-15 seconds
